Fundamentals of crystal growth and its application to medical-engineering collaborative research
Crystals are found in various places around us. For example, they are used in semiconductors for electronic devices such as computers and smartphones, optical elements such as lenses, pharmaceuticals, seasonings, cosmetics, and various other materials. There are also tissues in our bodies that make good use of crystals, such as bones, teeth, and shells. On the other hand, there are also crystalline tissues that threaten our health, such as urinary stones, arteriosclerosis, and gout.
In this class, we will start by looking at crystals around us and learn what crystals are and how research on crystals is conducted in various fields.
