Course Title

Magmatic processes of Caldera eruptionｓ

授業の目的と概要

マグマの発生と噴火は、地球内部から宇宙空間に熱が輸送される主要な形態の一つです。中でも、カルデラを形成するような巨大噴火は、日本のような沈み込み帯の大地を形づくっており、さらにまれに発生する超巨大噴火は国家や人類の文明の存亡にも影響する地球科学現象です。本講義では、大量のマグマが発生し、蓄積・噴出過程に関して解説します。またマグマの分化や蓄積条件を定量的に見積もるための方法として、熱力学計算ソフト(Rhyolite-MELTS)の使用法を解説し、データ処理法の実習を行います。

Purpose/Abstract

Magma generation and volcanic eruption are one of the primary forms of heat transport from the Earth's interior to outer space. Gigantic caldera eruptions form subduction zone crusts, and the supervolcanic eruptions are phenomena that can affect the survival of nations and human civilization. In this lecture, the processes of generation, accumulation, and eruption of large amounts of magma will be explained. The use of thermodynamic calculation software (Rhyolite-MELTS) to quantitatively estimate the conditions for magma differentiation and accumulation will be explained, and hands-on training in data processing methods will be provided.

各自PC を御準備下さい。ターミナルで Unix の基本コマンド(cd, ls, cat, cut,paste, grep 等)が打てる事を必須とします。また、データベース操作(sqlite3 あるいは DB Browser for SQLite)、グラフ作成(GMT) 、画像処理(ImageMagick)に必要なソフトが動くことを、期待します。受講予定者には、演習に使用するファイルをダウンロードできるよう、URL を周知します。

Remarks

Please prepare your own PC. Basic Unix commands (cd, ls, cat, cut, paste, grep, etc.) on a terminal are required. It is also expected that you can use the necessary software for database operations (sqlite3 or DB Browser for SQLite), graphing (GMT), and image processing (ImageMagick). We will inform prospective participants of the URLs so that they can download the files to be used in the exercises.
