Catalysis linking physical and life sciences
Catalysts are key to the synthesis of substances in flasks and factories, but they also play an important role in promoting life, like enzymes. When considering the two fields of materials science and life science from the perspective of catalysts in an integrated manner, the characteristics required of catalysts are that they activate stable substrates under mild conditions and have high selectivity. In this intensive lecture, we will focus on the catalysts we have developed on substrate activation and reaction selectivity. We will also discuss the development of catalysts for chemical biology and disease treatment.
Understand the concepts and characteristics of polar and radical reactions, as well as the mechanisms of chemoselectivity and stereoselectivity.
Using actual examples of catalyst development mainly conducted by lecturers, lectures will be given on the basic knowledge and concepts necessary for catalyst development, such as substrate activation and selectivity expression.
