Computational Magma Thermodynamics
Owing to many years of research results from high-temperature and high-pressure experiments, phase relations in multicomponent multiphase magmas can now be calculated numerically with considerable accuracy using thermodynamic calculation software (various MELTS programs). Using Rhyolite-MELTS as an example, this course will explain how to quantitatively estimate the crystallization differentiation processes and accumulation conditions of voluminous siliciclastic magmas and provide hands-on training in data processing methods.
Acquire an approach to understanding large-scale siliciclastic magmatic processes through numerical calculations

This lecture assumes that students have mastered the contents of Petrology I (4 semesters) and Theory of Phase Equilibria (5 semesters).
Please prepare your own PC. Basic Unix commands (cd, ls, cat, cut, paste, grep, etc.) on a terminal are required. It is also expected that you can use the necessary software for database operations (sqlite3 or DB Browser for SQLite), graphing (GMT), and image processing (ImageMagick). We will inform prospective participants of the URLs so that they can download the files to be used in the exercises.
