気象学
Meteorology
大気の運動、大気中で起こる様々な現象を理解するために、気象学の基礎をなす概念や過程について講義を行う。地表面と大気の関わり、水の果たす役割についてやや詳しく解説する。
In this course, the lecturer explains basic concepts and processes of meteorology to understand atmospheric motions and phenomena. In particular, interaction between land surfaces and the atmosphere, and role of water are explained in detail.
様々な気象現象がどのような物理法則に基づいて起こっているのかの基礎を理解する。気象学における重要な基礎概念を学習する。大気と地表面の関わりや水の重要性を理解する。
The purpose of this course is to help students understand basic physical laws for various atmospheric phenomena. Students will develop important concepts of meteorology, and understand interaction between land surfaces and the atmosphere, and importance of water.

8:大気の力学(運動の表し方,運動方程式)
9: 〃 (コリオリ力,地衡風)
10: 〃 (温度風,傾度風,渦度と発散,地表面摩擦)
11:大気と地表面の相互作用(地上気象要素の観測,境界層)
12: 〃 (乱流,エクマンスパイラル,境界層の風)
13: 〃 (地表面の熱収支)
14:中・小規模現象(海陸風,山谷風,山を越える気流)
15: 〃 (ヤマセ,重力流,ヒートアイランド)
This is a lecture-centered course, the contents are as shown below:
1: The atmosphere of the earth
2: Thermodynamics 1 (equation of state and moist air)
3: Thermodynamics 2 (the first law of thermodynamics and potential temperature)
4: Thermodynamics 3 (static equilibrium, adiabatic process, and vertical stability)
5: Radiation 1 (solar radiation and terrestrial radiation)
6: Radiation 2 (greenhouse effect and radiative equilibrium atmosphere)
7: Radiation 3 (scattering and heat-balance of atmosphere)
8: Dynamics 1 (equation of motion)
9: Dynamics 2 (Coriolis force and geostrophic wind)
10: Dynamics 3 (thermal wind, gradient wind, vorticity and divergence, and friction)
11: Land-atmosphere interactions 1 (observation of surface meteorological elements and boundary layer)
12: Land-atmosphere interactions 2 (turbulence and Ekman spiral)
13: Land-atmosphere interactions 3 (heat-balance at ground surface)
14: Small-to-medium scale phenomena 1 (land/sea breeze, mountain/valley wind, and mountain wave)
15: Small-to-medium scale phenomena 2 (‘yamase’, gravity current, and heat island)
出席(3割)と課題(7割)による。
Class participation (30%) and submitted reports (70%) are evaluated.
必要な資料は配布する。参考書は「一般気象学」(小倉義光著、東京大学出版会)、「基礎気象学」(浅井冨雄・新田尚・松野太郎著、朝倉書店)、「地球大気の科学」(田中博著、共立出版)、The physics of atmospheres 3rd ed. (J.T. Houghton, Cambridge Univ. Press)。
References are provided at the class.
授業内容は基礎的かつ重要であるので、十分に復習して理解すること。レポートのほか、理解を助けるための宿題を課す。
Students are required to make a thorough review because the contents are basic and important. A few repots and homework assignments are given to understand the class.
