The problem of Laughter. Aesthetics of Comic and Irony

授業の目的と概要

西洋美術史・美学史においては、「美」と「崇高」とらべれば、「滑稽」（コミック）と笑いはあまり高く評価されていなかった。しかし、「笑」と「美」はどういう関係をもっているのかという問題は、意外に深いです。色々な資料を参照しながら、学生の日常的な笑いの体験を出発点とし、笑い、コミック、アイロニーの美学を探検する。

Course Objectives and Course Synopsis(授業の目的と概要)

In the history of Western Art and Aesthetics, in comparison to the ideals of beauty and sublime, the "comic" and laughter have received very little attention. And yet, the connection between "beauty" and "laughter" can be a surprisingly complex problem. Referring to several materials, and beginning from the daily experience of laughter of the students, we will explore the aesthetics of comic and irony.

To comprehend conceptually the categories of the comic and of irony, and to interpret them both within artistic appreciation and in daily contexts.
