Course Title (授業題目)

Quantitative research methods of language utilizing corpora

授業の目的と概要

テキストの集積であるコーパスは、言語学やその関連領域の研究に様々な形で活かされています。本授業では、まず前半でコーパスを利用した研究の可能性を把握した上で、定量的研究をする上での基本的事項や処理・分析法を学びます。後半では、コーパスを利用した実際の定量的研究事例を深く理解し、受講生自身のことばに関する関心事をコーパスによって確かめる作業を行います。

Course Objectives and Course Synopsis(授業の目的と概要)

Corpora, collections of language resorces, are utilized in many different ways in linguistics or the related disciplines. In this course, students will first overview the possibilities of corpus studies, and then learn how to extract, process, and analyzed the data. In the latter half of the course, they will explore actual quantitative studise using corpora in depth, and experience the process of corpus linguistics to examine their own interests about language.

コーパス言語学の歴史と可能性を理解する。実際にコーパス研究を体験し、言語の科学的研究の方法論を習得し、学位論文研究を主体的におこなうための素地を身に着ける。

Learning Goals(学習の到達目標)

Students are expected to understand the history and possibilities of corpus linguistics. They will experience the process of corpus research, with which they learn the scientific research methodology of language. This experience will be beneficial for students to complete their theses independently.

成績評価方法

期末レポート（50％）、発表分担（30％）、毎回授業の最後に課すワークシート（20％） によって評価する。

Grading Plan(成績評価方法)

Grades will be calculated based on a final paper (50%), a presentation in class (30%), and minute papers (20%).

教科書および参考書

指定しない。講読する文献を配布する。

授業時間外学習

受講者全員に発表を担当し、共同プロジェクトを進めてもらうので、自分の分担作業は責任をもって着実に行うこと（その自信がない場合は受講しないこと）。
