Course Title (授業題目)

Vedic literature.

授業の目的と概要

本講義では『シャタパタ・ブラーフマナ』 I 6,3（B.C. 650頃以降）「IndraによるVrtra退治」の神話を取り上げ，読解演習を行う。講読を通じて，文献学の具体的方法習得に努める。Weberの校訂本及びKalyan-Bombay版を基本テキストとして，Mayrhofer: Etymologisches Wörterbuch des Altindoarischen, Gotō: Old Indo－Aryan Morphology, MacDonell: Vedic Grammar for Student，Delbrück: Altindische Syntax等を参照しながら，文献学の具体的な訓練を行う。

Course Objectives and Course Synopsis(授業の目的と概要)

In this course, students will read Satapatha-Brahmana I 6,3. The course provides students with essential discipline in Indian philology. It also help students learn about grammar, vocabulary, and syntax of Sanskrit as well as the Veda.

　ヴェーダ文献及び祭式に関する知識を習得し，ヴェーダの散文が読めるようになる。

By the end of this course, students will be able to
1. acquire fundamental skills of philological study through with reading of the Brāhmaṇa.
2. achieve essential knowledge to understand the origin of religion, culture, and language in India.

Satapatha-Brahmana (Ed. Weber, Ed. Kalyan-Bombay); Mayrhofer: Etymologisches Wörterbuch des Altindoarischen, Gotō: Old Indo－Aryan Morphology, Macdonell: Vedic Grammar for Student; Delbrück: Altindische Syntax; Whitney: Sanskrit Grammar等。

授業時間外学習

授業は，最初はゆっくり進めるが，後半ではある程度のスピードで読み進めることを目標にする。受講者は，可能な範囲でよいので，単語を調べ，語形を確定し，訳すように努力すること。予習が難しい場合は，授業内容をしっかりノートに書き込み復習すること。
Students are required to prepare for the assigned part of the designated textbook for each class. They are also required to make a thorough review.

その他

履修にはサンスクリット語初級の知識を必要とする。
Knowledge of essential Sanskrit Grammar is prerequisite.
