授業の目的と概要/Object and summary of class

This seminar is a learning opportunity for students to acquire the skills necessary to obtain a master's degree. Students will further their knowledge of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics at the graduate level, understand the latest academic papers, and be prepared to write their own papers.In particular, we study techniques of behavioral and experimental economics.

学習の到達目標/Goal of study

To acquire the skills necessary to read articles in the fields of behavioral economics, experimental economics, labor economics, and development economics published in leading English-language journals and to write their own academic papers. In particular, the student should be able to (i) accurately understand the concepts and mathematical structure of the theories presented in the academic papers and explain them clearly to others, and (ii) perform statistical analysis freely using statistical software such as Stata, R, and Python.

授業内容・方法と進度予定/Contents and progress schedule of the class

Depending on the interests and concerns of the students, they will report on graduate-level texts and scholarly articles. Students may also report on research in progress.
The students may also report on their ongoing research. In principle, the seminar will be conducted face-to-face.

成績評価方法/Evaluation method

Comprehensive evaluation will be made based on attendance, presentations, and level of understanding.However, students in the Economics and Management Research Course will be provided with Japanese-language services.

教科書および参考書/Textbook and references

    授業時間外学習/Preparation and Review

    Actively read literature not only in economics, but also in psychology, sociology, and other fields, and think daily about how best to incorporate them into explanations of economic phenomena.

    その他/In addition

    (1) Students who wish to enroll in this seminar are required to set aside at least 8 hours a day for study, including lecture time.
    (2) The students are expected to complete the master's thesis in the following year.
    (3) Students enrolled in this seminar should also participate in the Contemporary Economy Research Group (https://sites.google.com/view/tohokumoderneconomics) and actively ask questions and make comments.
    (4) Although it is not prohibited to participate without registering for the seminar, in principle, only those who have registered for the seminar will be given the opportunity to report and speak.
    (5) It is possible to take this Seminar Ib even if you have not taken Seminar Ia.
