Introduction to Management
NGUYEN KIM NGAN
Management is essential for business success in all types and sizes of organizations, organizational levels, and work areas. Once students graduate from universities and begin their careers, they will either manage or be managed. In any case, understanding management is significant.
This course introduces effective management theories and focuses on developing students’ skills to work in a global workplace or become start-up leaders.

At the end of this course, students are expected to
・Understand the basics of managing in today’s workplace, including external environmental factors, organization’s culture, global environment; managing diversity, social responsibility, change, and disruptive innovation
・Understand the four basic functions of management (planning, organizing, leading, controlling) and factors influencing the decision making
・Develop the five key skills that employers are looking for: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, knowledge application, and social responsibility
In this course, while the lecturer explains the fundamental theories, students have to discuss problem-solving through cases to deepen their understanding and improve skills. The tentative schedule is as follows.

Attendance & Participation 50%; Group presentations 30%; Individual assignment 20%. No written examinations
