Diversity of organisms and species
本授業では、生物にみられる多様性のうち、生物集団内での個体や遺伝的多様性と、生物群集内で存在する生物種の多様性について、焦点をあてる。集団内になぜ性質の異なる個体や遺伝子が維持されているのか、という問題は、人間集団内の多様性の問題にも繋がる。それとは別に、なぜ地球上に多様な生物種が存在し、そのような生物多様性は、どのように維持されているのか、また、生物多様性がもたらす人間社会への影響についての問題は、持続可能な人間社会の問題とも関連している。受講者は、そのような多様性の問題についての講義の中で質問、議論をしながら理解を深める。また、生物に関わる多様性に関する講義の聴講と文献をよみ、発表することで、多様性についての理解を深める。また、それらをもとに、人間を含めた生物の多様性についての諸問題についての考察を進める。
This lesson focuses on the diversity found in living organisms, both individual and genetic diversity within a population and the diversity of species present within a community. The question of why individuals and genes with different properties are maintained in a population is linked to the question of diversity within human populations. Apart from that, the question of why there is a diversity of species on the planet and how such biodiversity is maintained, and the question of the impact of biodiversity on human society, is also relevant to the issue of sustainable human society. Participants will deepen their understanding of such diversity issues by asking questions and discussing them during the lectures. They will also deepen their understanding of diversity by attending lectures on biodiversity, reading literature and presenting their findings. Based on these, students will also consider various issues related to the diversity of living organisms, including humans.

まず、生物多様性の生成と維持機構についての概要を講義する。講義では、問いかけや質問など双方向に議論を深める。次に、受講者は、多様性に関する著書および解説記事(日本語あるいは英語の文献を選ぶ）を読んで、その内容をプレゼンテーションし、その後、質疑応答と解説を行う。また、生物多様性と人間社会における多様性との関係について、生物学的視点からみた考察を行う。

The lecture will begin with an overview of the mechanisms that generate and maintain biodiversity. The lecture will be followed by an interactive discussion, including questioning and questioning. Next, participants will read and present a book and commentary article on diversity (in Japanese or English literature of their choice), followed by a question-and-answer session and commentary. In addition, the relationship between biodiversity and diversity in human society will be discussed from a biological perspective.
