Integrated Academic Presentation
Students will learn integrated academic presentation skills. The course has two objectives:
Objective 1: For Presenters: Preparing, creating, and giving an academic presentation
Objective 2: For Listeners: Identifying and asking about key information from an academic presentations
Students will learn the following core skills, as outlined in Pathways to Academic English for III [PDF Textbook], for each objective:
Objective 1 core skills:
(1) Presentation Preparation: Students will improve their ability to choose a presentation topic, create an outline, research the topic, write the script, design the visuals, understand the presentation setting, practice the presentations, and prepare for questions.
(2) Presentation Strategies: Students will improve their presentation skills by practicing spoken language strategies, body language strategies, visual language strategies, and audience engagement strategies.
Objective 2 core skills:
1) Listening Critically: Students will improve their ability to analyze and evaluate the information that a speaker is giving and form an opinion based on the information.
(2) Question and Answers Strategies: Students will improve their ability to answer factual, clarifying, exploratory, and challenging questions which they will likely encounter during the Q&A session after their academic presentation.
In addition, students will be able to:
1. improve English communication skills through groupwork, discussions, and presentations.
2. increase English vocabulary for use in major-based academic contexts
3. improve TOEFL® scores
4. increase knowledge and interest in foreign culture and global affairs
5. build English presentation and discussion skills though in-class activities

Lesson 3: Learn the role of English in the world by watching the video of "The Story of English 1"
Lesson 4: Improve the sound of English through the students' self-introduction (1)
Lesson 5: Improve the sound of English through the students' self-introduction (2)
Lesson 6: Improve the sound of English through the students' self-introduction (3)
Lesson 7: Listen to the speeches of Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Churchill.
Lesson 8: Analyze the speech of the renowned Martin Luther King.

Lesson 11: Watching the film of "Kings Speech"(1)

In principle, an “AA” is given to the top 20% of students and an “A” is given to the next 40%.
